The SAT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. The purpose of the SAT is to measure a high school student’s readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants. College admissions officers will review standardized test scores alongside your high school GPA, the classes you took in high school, letters of recommendation from teachers or mentors, extracurricular activities, admissions interviews, and personal essays. The importance of SAT scores in the college application process varies from school to school.
The Digital SAT is a multiple-choice test. As the name implies, it’s now computerized. So, you will take it on College Board’s BlueBook testing application. You still need to go to a testing center to take the test. You cannot take it from home.
The SAT exam consists of two sections:
Two-stage adaptive test design: one Reading and Writing section administered via two separately timed modules.
Two-stage adaptive test design: one Math section administered via two separately timed modules.
Each section is scored on a 200-to-800-point scale, making the “perfect” score 1600.
The best score you need depends on the your target schools and the programs you are applying to.
The SAT is an admission test accepted by all U.S. colleges, as well as international colleges and universities following an American curriculum.
You can send four free score reports to colleges every time you register for the SAT. This is the fastest way to send scores to colleges and scholarship programs—and there’s no fee. You can use your free score reports up to nine days after the test. To send additional score reports, you must log into your online account or contact Collegeboard to do so. Each additional score report costs 12$.
There is no limit to the validity of your SAT score. If you have taken the SAT several times, you can choose which SAT score you send with the Score Choice option.
